EVERYTHING is coming up roses for the young gardeners at St Catherine's CE Primary School.

The green fingered pupils have an allotment where they have started planting the seeds for their Tatton Flower Show display, as well as growing their own food and vegetables.

Land at the Horwich school has been transformed thanks to the efforts of site-manager Tony Clift who was helped by the school's eco-club, parents and volunteers.

Anne Gunning, regional advisor for the North West, officially opened the allotments.

Headteacher Karen Graham said: "We have a site manager who is very enthusiastic about gardening.

"It is very popular with the children.

"Children are preparing for their Tatton flower display, which this year will be an enchanted fairy garden as the theme is British myths and legends.

"The same day we had a ‘twilight' session where Anne worked with other schools."
