I WAS reading the front page story on Friday, February 8 (“Tell us if the cuts hit you”), about the Clinical Commissioning Group’s intention to set up a group to monitor the effects of spending cuts on patient care at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and especially the Royal Bolton Hospital.

The name chosen for this group, The Star Chamber, is perhaps a little unfortunate as the name seems to have become to mean a body that is arbitrary, secretive and prone to take decisions that are highly political and seen as a repressive arm of government. One can only hope that this Star Chamber is more the original inception as a body that held to account people who regarded themselves above the law.
