IT’S easy to understand former Oasis star Noel Gallagher’s complaints that there are no characters left in pop music.
He described today’s scene as “very corporate” and said that at the Brit Awards he saw the drummer from Muse smoking an electronic cigarette. He told the musician: “Do me a favour mate, either have a proper one outside, or don’t have one.”
While the drummer’s behaviour does send out a laudable and positive healthy message, you can’t resist a sneaking sympathy for what Noel’s sentiments. Just cast your mind back to the hedonistic lifestyle of groups like the Rolling Stones and the Who which always seemed exciting and slightly dangerous.
