A LEAFLET is dropping through your letter box entitled: “Better information means better care.”

This is a request from the NHS to share a patients’ medical records within the NHS.

The main reason I would have in agreeing to my medical records being shared is that if I am admitted to the Royal Bolton Hospital, my notes from my GP would be available and, if admitted to an out-of-area hospital, all my records would be available when required.

However, the leaflet does not say that and it is far more about helping the NHS bureaucracy than helping the patient.

For instance, I do not have it as a priority to ensure that NHS organisations get paid the correct amount for their services.

I will support this initiative, but it is not a great benefit to those requiring urgent care.

It is not clear that this information is to be used to enhance a patient’s care.
