IN reference to Councillor Burrows’ reply to the letter “How the town has been dismantled”.
My wife and I have lived in Kearsley for more than 50 years and, while accepting the councillor’s comments, I feel that Mr Colley was right in a lot of things he said.
Last year the Council allocated £2.6 million updating the parks around Bolton. What did we get? A refurbishment of the tennis courts at Bradford Street.
This year they have allocated £2 million for updating the parks, What did we get? Nothing at all.
I have no axe to grind against the updating of tennis courts but most of them are used for two weeks after Wimbledon.
Councillor Burrows mentioned that Kearsley Park (Bolton Road Recreation ground) was due for an update in 2015. While this is most welcome it will probably be the last park in Bolton to be updated.
There is nothing in Kearsley for the children and the youths. I am secretary of Kearsley Park Bowling club and on a daily basis we clear the footpaths and the bowling greens of cans and bottles sometimes broken, which have been left by the youths congregating there.
During the past 12 years or so the bowling club has obtained over £25,000 in grants mainly through the area forums supported by Councillor Burrows and his predecessor Councillor Rothwell. All of this has been used in the club and the surrounding greens.
He also mentions the park being a multi-games area — do bowling greens and a five-a-side football pitch constitute multi?
Apart from the facilities at Kearsley Mount Church under the direction of Stephen Tonge there is not much else in Kearsley. It is well overdue for someone to stand up for the residents of Kearsley. Jack Wharton Kearsley
