NIGEL Farage and UKIP have certainly managed to attract a great deal of publicity in the run up to the European Union referendum on June 23. He can drive round on a double decker bus all he wants but does he really offer anything to the people of Bolton?

Farage and others are happy to blame the EU for all our problems even when it is clear that they have causes elsewhere.

It was not the EU that made the decision to cut billions of pounds from public spending and slash the budgets of local councils, that was a Conservative UK government.

It was not the EU that made introduced the Trade Union Bill to further weaken the unions and attack worker's rights, that was a Conservative UK government. It was not the EU that decided to cut disability benefits or introduce the bedroom tax and hit some of the most vulnerable people in society, that too was was a Conservative UK government.

The fact is we cannot blame the EU for all our problems.

We certainly cannot trust Nigel Farage who has repeatedly said public spending cuts do not go far enough. Nigel Farage has made it clear that he wants Boris Johnson to lead the Conservatives and be the next prime minister. It's clear he has nothing in common with working class people in Bolton.

The EU referendum is important and people need be able to cut some of the hysteria and hype on all sides to make sense of the issues.

I am pleased that Bolton TUC has organised a special meeting to debate the UK's future membership the EU tomorrow at Bolton Central Library.
