LAUNCHING her general election campaign in Egerton on Wednesday, Theresa May tried to pretend that her snap election is all about Brexit. She claimed that anyone who does not support her is trying to frustrate her Brexit negotiations.

This just is not true. If the Liberal Democrats, the SNP and the Greens want to see a Labour victory on June 8, it is because they want to see the end of a Conservative government that is doing so much damage to so many people’s lives. Article 50 has been triggered and the UK is leaving the EU.

The important thing now is that our lives start to get better. When Theresa May became Prime Minister she said that she wanted to create a country that was fairer for all, but, clearly, this was not true.

Her government has not banned zero hours contracts, her minimum wage is too little to live on and Tax Credits have been frozen and benefits reduced.

Meanwhile, the well paid have been given tax cuts and she has done nothing to stop big businesses cheating the system to avoid paying tax.

If the Conservatives return to power on June 8, the Prime Minister will continue to shift the balance in favour of the very rich, because this is what Tories do.

Launching his general election campaign on Thursday, Jeremy Corbyn spelled out very clearly all the things that he wants to do to make this country a fairer place and I urge readers to listen carefully to everything that he has to say between now and polling day and then to vote for what they want.

And, yes, you are quite right, in 2010 I stood for the Greens in Bolton and urged the people of Bolton West to “vote for what you want” and in 2010 I was urging them to vote Green.

So, what has changed?

Quite simply this — with Jeremy Corbyn in charge, the Labour Party has returned to the values of the people who created it to look after the rights of the majority of us.

Jeremy Corbyn has those true Labour values written through him like the word “Blackpool” through a stick of rock.
