It was with great sadness that like many others, I learnt that John Carr Snr had passed away.

On behalf of Bolton Interfaith Council, our deepest sympathy

and prayers for his family.

Through my work, I got to know John and his generosity for community causes was remarkable as he was a caring community person.

There were many community interfaith events where he supported and attended, such as passport to faiths, interfaith cricket and others, but the one that I remember fondly was when interfaith was requested to hold a charity fund raising event in Victoria Square for the victims of Nepal earthquake in 2015 and support came together from Bolton Council, Aquila Shelters, Swaminarayan Pipe Band and many people from community provided numerous activities totally on volunteering basis.

We had almost 60 plus volunteers and we had to at least provide them with some food. I had spoken to John few days before to

supply 80 cheese pasties at just cost price and on the day of the event, 120 warm cheese pasties were provided and he would not take any money from us.

It was not about money, but his generosity was the immense measure of the man.

Later, I found out that on the day was a close family wedding but he ensured our volunteers had something to eat.

On that Saturday alone, within four hours, we raised almost £2,500 from the Bolton Family for the victims of the poor nation of Nepal. That was only possible because people like John and others joined hands.

I was aware he was helpful in so many ways to schools and many community groups in Bolton.

It was a privilege to have known such a wonderful man who contributed to our community.

On behalf of Bolton Interfaith, our deepest sympathy for the family and we shall always remember John with fond memories.

God bless his soul.
