I WRITE regarding recent comments in The Bolton News from Cllr John Walsh (January 5) regarding his disagreement with the proposal under consideration to move the election count back to Bolton Town Hall from Bolton Arena in Horwich, the venue for last year's count.

Surely, moving the location of the count to one of our own civic buildings, resulting in a saving of between £15,000 and £20,000, is the right move.

Bolton Town Hall is centrally located in the borough and is where democracy takes place - the rightful location for the count. After all, why pay for the hire of a venue when we have our own civic building in the heart of Bolton?

I appreciate that the use of two rooms would be required for the size of this event if it is held at the town hall and, whilst not ideal, it isn't a major problem. Moving from one room to another is a price worth paying if the council can make such a significant saving.

I am at a loss as to why Cllr Walsh would not be in agreement with this proposal going ahead when it seems like a common sense approach to me.
