RE Mr William Gallagher, Astley Bridge (January 28). I read that he is very angry, but, if I may say, not as angry as myself.

How any person can think, and state, that Jock, Paddy, Taffy or Yank are racist remarks beggars belief. It is beyond the bounds of reason.

These attitudes, combined with the compensation culture, play a big part in what is wrong with our present-day society.

A person who wears glasses is a “four eyes”; a person with red hair is a “carrot top”. So what? We ourselves are Limies and whinging Poms — the latter being a perfect analogy.

Where does it end? Is stupidity the new common sense?

Do not stop the child from attacking the teacher, they are only practicing their theatre studies.

Do not send them to prison, it will deprive them of their freedom.

Get a life and get on with it, and in the words of a realist, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but calling me names won’t hurt me”.
