THE saga of Sean Hornby and his taxi offences — is he guilty or not?
Apparently he now says he only admitted to the offences to save the cost of a defence.
He has been removed from his job on the planning committee, however, he is still in the far more important job of representing the people of his ward as a councillor.
Surely, in accordance with our democratic system and as an honourable man, Mr Hornby might think that the only cast-iron way of testing if the people of Little Lever/Darcy Lever still have confidence in him is to resign his seat and fight a by-election.
If, on the other hand, he chooses not to go to the people, any investigation of his and the council’s conduct during this sad affair must only be carried out by an external/independent body, perhaps the Local Government Ombudsman. This is to avoid any accusations of “a whitewash”.
A Hampson, Little Lever
