I HAVE been in touch with the highways and footpaths departments at Bolton Council regarding a problem with kerbs.
Due to ill health, I now rely on a shopping scooter to do my daily errands. Where I live, I have no dropped kerbs to get off the pavement.
Some months ago, I had a visit from highways department staff who promised a dropped kerb on the corner of John Street and Queens Avenue. The road there is atrocious.
Even if I do eventually get the dropped kerb, the road surface that is very uneven and full of potholes, which is very dangerous.
I have to go to the junction of Queens Avenue and Chetwyn Avenue to get to the shops, but then things are worse.
The island which I have to mount to get to the crossing is broken and getting worse. It is crumbling away and I only just have room to manoeuvre my scooter in order to press the button to cross the road.
Rain creates two massive puddles at each end of the crossing. These defects are a accident waiting to happen — I just hope it’s not me.
I am not just complaining because I am a scooter user, it affects pedestrians as well.
I have written to my MP and sent numerous letters to the Town Hall, but nothing gets done, even though I have been promised some improvements.
