I WONDERED at first if T Dewhurst (Letters, September 10), “Well done councillors for great radio”, was a close relative of one of our presenters with such enthusiastic and encouraging words about the station.

The answer is no, so he must be one of the thousands of Boltonians that have made 96.5 Bolton FM their radio station of choice.

I’m sorry he feels the station is poorly advertised but our progress has been well reported thanks to The Bolton News and we had a huge launch in the town hall square on June 20 and only recently hosted the Food and Drink Festival in town. An advertising budget we sadly don’t have. I have to point out that whilst we have had super support from the council we are not allowed to be a part of the council but pleased to consider ourselves part of the Bolton family. We are a stand-alone community radio station set up by a team of local people, including our chairman, Frank White, who is indeed a councillor, representing all sectors of the community and run by volunteers.

The board of directors are really pleased with the progress made after only 10 weeks broadcasting and we now have a station that manages to touch many parts of the community and keeps our listeners well informed about what’s happening in our vibrant town with not only events, traffic and weather but also news and views and lots of interviews with the movers and shakers that make up the very fabric of Bolton.

So, thank you T Dewhurst, you have no idea how much our presenters value your comments and we look forward to many more thousands of listeners as we move on and become even more professional as time goes by.
