BOLTON Council may automatically do this so please forgive the following question if they do.
Should there not be a system in place to ensure that local companies are automatically given preference for any major building or redevelopment projects available in Bolton?
For example, the £7.3 million facelift for Queens Park might well provide a jobs’ bonanza for skilled local workers.
This would be provided it is not the kind of specialist work, like that on Dobson Bridge, being done by a Derbyshire firm, for example, that may not be available in Bolton.
I realise it is probably allocated on a “lowest priced tender” basis, but if there was a definite bias towards using local firms and labour in projects, provided they still priced the job competitively, this could boost the local economy along with the actual work itself improving the area. Or is that simply too naïve?
