JUST a quick response to Dr Gibson (Letters, November 16).

I think we are in no doubt that our overseas contributor is no fan of William Shakespeare. The distant doc’s words are apt for my point, “If you like it, read it, if you do not like it, don’t read it”.

I only wonder how anyone could arrive at such a decision without exposure to a subject? Let the children make up their own minds, just as our far-off friend has his.

I also find it hard to believe that the good Dr Gibson would use Shakespeare’s personal behaviour as a valid reason to steer clear of his work. If we did that across the whole art world, I think libraries would have little use for such large buildings, galleries would close en- masse, and our already overflowing wheelie bins would be host to our entire music collections.
