LET’S take stock of the recent publicity surrounding the English Defence League’s plan to hold a demonstration on March 6, which was postponed because it clashed with a Hindu festival on the same day.

Now that the EDL has a clear window on March 20, the UAF movement has raised its head. Why would they want to get involved?

The UAF has demonstrated in every case that it is willing to oppose freedom of speech, to the point of trying to silence the real threat of radical Islam in the UK, by provoking an already fragile situation.

Let the EDL march without opposition. Only time will tell whether they are a group of thugs or a group which is just brave enough to say what a lot of people think but are scared to say.

Whether we like it or not, intrusive security scanners are at our airports. Why? England’s security level was recently raised to Severe. Why? TV programmes are making us all aware of threats. Why?

I suggest the EDL should be left to do their march in peace. That way, those who believe in the EDL could attend in whatever numbers and support them.

Those who are opposed to them should stay at home and not get involved.
