I am sorry if I offended the young women who wrote the letter called Obesity: Upset by attack on parents.

She said I was wrong to assume that all parents of fat children cannot cook. She said she was obese when she was 10 years old yet her parents fed her good food.

In huge quantities, I presume? Yes, you still get fat by eating too much good food!

She said she was an active swimmer as a child but became conscious of her weight and gave it up at the age of 11. She did not say what she did for exercise after that. It seems safe to assume she did not do much.

I feel sad and angry when children, through no fault of their own, are made to feel outcasts simply because their parents allowed them, or actually encouraged them, to eat too much.

She said she is overweight now due to a hormonal condition called PCOS. Then she said she lost 74lbs through diet, exercise and sheer hard work. That says it all!

Keep up the good work. Good luck.
