AT the end of the recent letter, “Get tough on travellers”, the writer asks for Bolton MPs to act to get this sorted.
What the writer fails to realise is that the MPs they are asking for help from are members of the same party that gave more and more rights and protection to minority groups, like the travellers, so you will get no help from them.
In this column I am sure I saw a letter saying that private landowners, town halls, etc, should have a blanket eviction notice already in place. This would stop all the time wasting of having to apply to the courts and would give the local authorities the power to act immediately, rather than a few days, or up to a fortnight, later — time in which the travellers amass a mountain of rubbish to be left behind when they depart.
Every town/city that has permanent sites already in place for travellers should have the right to move travellers who pitch up illegally out of their boundaries. They bring a bad name to the travellers who are permanent residents, putting them all in the same boat, so to speak.
