I WOULD like to comment on the letter “Buy British to help save our economy”. It makes several references to Brian Derbyshire and his views.

I have read Brian’s letters, and I do not always agree with him, but I will give him his due, he has the courage to sign his name to his letters, unlike the writer of the letter mentioned above who signs “Name and address supplied”.

He/she should give Brian the chance to reply to someone with a name. If he/she is saying that Brian wants companies nationalised and everyone to have a job, then on this occasion I would agree with him.

He/she goes on about China and shirts, but does not mention how many shirts a Chinese worker has to turn out to make a living, could it be several thousand a week just to earn a pound. Isn’t that known as cheap labour and the companies called sweat shops? Is this what he/she wants for this country?

He/she talks of profits, profits to whom? The country to benefit all, or to private pockets so it can be ploughed into something like the Hedgehog Fund fiasco.

I wonder how many of my fellow countrymen/women invested in China and other countries with cheap labour and sweat shops, because the profits are lucrative investing in blood, sweat and tears.

As for Mrs Thatcher, you just have to look at the mining industry to see what she did for this country and British industry.
