IT is only a matter of time before someone gets killed in Rivington terraced gardens by mountain bikes. They have taken over the whole east side and ride down at speeds in excess of 40mph.
They have constructed ramps and are also disrupting wildlife.
It is believed a rare long-eared owl has been prevented from nesting in the region through their activities.
The local owners, United Utilities, have been aware of this problem since the rhododendrums were cut down in 2004/5, but have done little to curtail it.
It has been said they condone it because they seem to lean towards sport recreation rather than conservation.
