ONCE again, Bolton has another developer determined to destroy the very character of the town.

I refer to the George Hotel, situated on the corner of Blackhorse Street and Great Moor Street — a three-storey building being replaced by a 12- storey building.

What is this obsession with trying to cram as much as possible on to a small area?

Why does everything have to be bigger than the surroundings?

I guess the developer is a “male” — their ego is inflated by trying to erect something bigger and better.

And more apartments — how many does Bolton need?

It’s going to be a town not of retail development, but of residential development. We need shops, and shops that are varied and affordable — that’s what brings the shoppers in — and pubs and eateries.

Who wants to live in Bolton town centre anyway?

If I could afford an apartment in Bolton, I’d prefer to spend the money looking at something more scenic. Can you imagine the racket on market days, and looking across at a skate park, Morrisons supermarket and the car park of Elizabeth House?

No thanks.

They haven’t a clue what people want, only what they want.

Total folly.
