I SEE once again the bleeding heart brigade are out in force, complaining about salary levels.

Someone who is the chief executive of a town the size of Bolton would be the equivalent of a managing director or chairman of a medium-sized company, juggling many plates, trying to please many people and under scrutiny of all. Far more, in fact, than that of a company director, as every decision he makes is sure to upset someone or some pressure group.

It is a wonder at all that we are able to fill these positions with experienced and qualified people. These positions are not nine to five, they are 24 hours, 365 days a year, with more than one paymaster to please.

So walk a mile in the chief executive’s shoes and then say he gets too much. I wonder how much time he gets to spend with his family?
