I WAS astonished to read the article (August 18) stating that Bolton was a "charity desert".

I have been involved with national and local charities in the town for over 40 years and cannot praise the people of Bolton highly enough for their great generosity for all types of charities.

The article quoting research from the NVCO was an insult to all the Boltonians who put their hands in their pockets or give their time to so many good causes in our town. I am sure that the National Council for Voluntary Organisations could put their resources to better use than this type of research, which is not of use to anyone.

Keep helping your favourite charity - they could not do without you.
