I DON’T know about you but I’ve had mixed feelings about the Olympics ever since I realised that it’s taking cash from local sporting projects.
In spite of some of our regional sports stars competing, the proximity of London and the extreme unlikelihood of ever affording or getting tickets, made the Olympics seem very remote. However, since discovering that the Olympic torch is coming to the town, I’m changing my mind. Amir Khan reckons it will inspire people to get involved in the Olympics, and he’s probably right.
It’s a matter of pride that the town will host the flame and I’ve no doubt it will encourage many more of us doubters to better appreciate this important sporting event next year.
