I have just read your article about times must be hard for teachers by Alan Calvert.

My children both attend a secondary school, where I have witnessed terrible misuse of position by teachers to both my children.

One example: My daughter at the beginning of the school year was allowed to take off her blazer whilst in class and kept forgetting to put it back on and hence would lose it. After buying her a fourth new blazer in six weeks, I received a phone call at work from the head of year to tell me she had taken my daughter out of her class to stand by her whilst she told me I was an irresponsible parent by not ensuring she wore a blazer to school. As a parent I know I send my children to school to get an education. If there is a problem with my children surely members of staff should act in a professional manner and find what is wrong initially instead of taking the assumption that every pupil is an offender and inform parents they are “irresponsible”.

When I was at school my parents weren’t interrupted at work by a phone call. I would suggest that head teachers look into why there is so much anger and resentment pointed at them and they may just realise that the source of the problem lies within their own members.
