I WOULD like to respond on behalf of LINks regarding recent letters on the letters pages concerning St Catherine’s Nursing Home.

The LINk (Bolton Local Involvement Network) made an official Enter & View visit on December 8, 2010. The report was sent to St Catherine’s and to the Bolton local authority and the Care Quality Commission.

The LINks report highlighted a number of points, similar to what the CQC have found, particularly in the Dementia Unit. The CQC and the local authority then factored our findings into their strategies.

Our information leads us to understand that the local authority is working with the home to assist them in making necessary improvements.

The LINks governing board & Enter & View visiting team have all read the CQC report in its entirety. It is the LINks’ opinion that if the people of Bolton would like to read both the full CQC report (cqc.org.uk) and the LINks Enter & View report (which is available via boltonlink.org) they would then see the similarities for themselves and see the CQC intervention and current work as a positive step for the staff and residents and relatives. At no time did LINks’ authorised representatives see any evidence of abuse, nor did either report mention abuse.
