I AM working in the community providing a service to residents in the Bolton area who are hard of hearing and have, or need, a NHS hearing aid. The project is in conjunction with The Royal Bolton Hospital’s audiology department and Action on Hearing Loss.

While running a local drop-in service at the Horwich Clinic, a wonderful very elderly lady came to see me. I helped to service her hearing aid and she was so thankful. “You are my angel,” was her welcome. “Do you know, if it wasn’t for this service I would have to rely on someone to bring me to the hospital and it would cost me a lot of money in a taxi there and back.

“This service means I can walk here all by myself, I only live two minutes away, you have given me a little of my independence back and for that I am grateful.”

I wanted to share these comments with other readers.

Some of our younger community today would be happy for others to constantly run around after them, but we should cherish the values of our elder community as we can learn a lot from them. Julie Crowther Action on Hearing Loss Royal Bolton Hospital
