RE, Karen Owen’s letter of April 4 (“How will we benefit from the Budget?”). I could not agree more. While it is true that pensioners have received a £5.30 increase, I would like to point out: ● The pension rise has increased my council tax bill by £8 a month; ● I get pension credit which has been reduced by £5 a month because of the increase.
● I will have to find another £10 a month to pay my interest-only mortgage after the Halifax raised interest rates; ● I have had a water meter installed after being told it would be cheaper. I have just been told my direct debit payments will be increased by £6 a month; ● I am 71 and worked for 42 years in full time employment, have never had a husband’s wage and this is how I am expected to manage. I am existing, not living.
Unfortunately, I too voted for the LibDems last time.
I can’t wait for another election.
