THE very different outcomes for Wanderers’ Fabrice Muamba and Italian footballer Piermario Morosini underline the real need for available defibrillators at sporting occasions.
The quick action surrounding Muamba gave him a fighting chance when he collapsed on the pitch, whereas when Morosini suffered a heart attack during a match in Livorno it proved fatal.
Nor does this only apply to professional sports clubs. We need more defibrillators available at sports centres and amateur sports clubs to enable swift, effective action when tragedy threatens. It’s an investment in people’s lives.
