YOUR article “Election fight over axeing of libraries” (The Bolton News, April 28) is a necessary reminder that Cllr Cliff Morris and this Labour council have presided over cuts to important public services that affect the quality of life for so many people in our town. Unemployment rises and misery deepens under a Coalition that seems to think this is a punishment we all deserve.
Labour has failed to offer any protection against divisive social policies — perhaps because privatisation of schools and hospitals began under Blair and Brown.
We need an alternative that stimulates the economy by creating much-needed and worthwhile jobs in social housing construction, in better public transport and in home insulation schemes to cut our soaring heating bills.
Ian McHugh Green Party candidate Halliwell ward
