GORGEOUS and talented though she is, you do wonder whether Britain’s best-known ballerina Darcey Bussell, pictured, is right for Strictly Come Dancing.

She’s just been chosen as a judge to replace the very popular Alesha Dixon who has defected to become a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.

Alesha had been a Strictly winner and controversially replaced established choreographer Arlene Phillips, who had committed the cardinal sin of being deemed too old.

The trick, I suppose, is getting the panel balance just right. After all, you’ve got three mature male judges in Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli.

So presumably the BBC must feel they need a glamorous younger woman: enter Darcy Bussell who, at 42, has an unarguably strong ballet CV.

However, when she was a guest judge on the show in 2009, she made you long for a newly painted wall to watch drying so vastly under-stated was she.

Come on, BBC. Either bring back Arlene or go for an offthe- wall choice like Dawn French or Miranda Hart to bring a breath of fresh air.
