THE recent spate of horse deaths has prompted me to write this letter.

A recent survey has found that a total of 420 horses have been raced to their deaths in recent years.

This is further evidence of our out-dated class system lusting after money and “pleasure” at the expense of the ill-treatment of the horses.

How is it that most of these sports involving animals (horses, foxes, hares, pheasants, fish, etc), seem to be the exclusive domain of the idle rich and famous?

Witness the disgusting exhibition of “Ladies Day”, where everything seems to be focused on silly hats and stupid dresses rather than on the horses and their welfare. I think the RSPCA are spineless and should concentrate more on banning these vile sports.
