I WATCHED a television programme about the police, one of those fly-on-the-wall programmes They were following the Bedfordshire police around. We learn from the programme that the Bedfordshire police earn a bonus for motoring convictions. After watching the programme, I wondered if Bolton police operate exactly the opposite way. We read of very few convictions, in Bolton, of motorists using mobile phones whilst driving, illegal number plates, illegally tinted front windows or no seatbelts, etc. Yet every day while walking or driving, I see people using mobile phones and/or driving without wearing seatbelts.
Inevitably, one or more motorist pulled up in Bedfordshire also had no insurance or even a licence, thus making the roads of Bedfordshire a lot safer than the roads of Bolton.
