‘Special’ care for duchess

First published in Comment

JUST reading the story regarding job losses at the Bolton Royal Hospital for doctors, midwives and a report of hospitals being filled to bursting, when the TV reports that the Duchess of Cambridge has been admitted to hospital with morning sickness and is likely to be in for a few days.

A friend of my daughter’s has had a very sick baby admitted to Wigan hospital as the hospital she lives near had no special needs beds available, nor did Bolton. I just wonder if the Duchess had to wait on a hospital trolley for eight hours to be admitted or had to be transferred some 30 miles from home as no beds were available.

How does the saying go: “All people are equal but some more equal than others.” I can’t say I have heard of many other pregnant women admitted to hospital with morning sickness.
