OH dear! Musician and TV presenter Myleene Klass has really opened a can of worms about children’s birthday parties.
The mum of two objected to a round-robin email from other school mothers asking for a contribution of £10 each for their daughters’ forthcoming party to buy the girls a Kindle and a desk.
Outraged by this calculating approach, Myleene informed her Twitter followers about it, ridiculing the mothers. Perhaps sending that response back to the parents involved might have been more sensible because the next day, unsurprisingly, she was not the most popular mum at the school gates.
OK. It may seem a little bit avaricious to ask for cash for your kids instead of the usual array of presents but, really, this might be a better way of gift-giving.
Children’s birthday parties are a minefield for parents which usually end up costing them much more than a tenner. Just pay up, Myleene, and lose the hassle of wondering what little Gossamer or Leander might enjoy. Life’s far too short.
