IT was great to see British film The Theory of Everything and actor Eddie Redmayne mopping up at the BAFTAs.
The film, charting the life of physicist Dr Stephen Hawking, has also won praise from critics and public for the portrayal of a man fighting motor neurone disease and his relationships with those around him.
It was difficult not to contrast that with the fuss and hype surrounding the launch of the film Fifty Shades of Grey starring no-one in particular.
There’s no doubt that people will go to see this film, too, if only to check how closely it lives up to the original raunchy best-seller.
But it would be interesting to hold an exit poll of those coming out of the film afterwards to see if this lightweight modern sex and string saga is actually entertaining.
Judging by the majority of critics’ appraisals so far, it’s about as sexy as the average M&S meal for two and a lot les satisfying. Basically, The Theory of Nothing.
