WELL done to Westhoughton single mum Gemma Aitchinson for taking on the awful Katie Hopkins.
The Celebrity Big Brother star told her 500,000 Twitter followers “Full-time mummy is another word for unemployed.” Gemma, sister of murdered teen Sasha Marsden and founder of YES Matters’ campaign tackling sexual objectification and gender stereotyping, hit back saying that Hopkins doesn’t know what she’s talking about when it comes to single mothers.
“She is just a token woman who agrees with the boys,” she stated, and I couldn’t agree more. Sadly, Hopkins’s comments – as anyone who reads the Bolton News’ website will know – simply fuel the prejudices of many people (mostly male) about single mums.
Scroungers are in every area of society today but the majority of single mums do their very best for their children, often under extremely difficult circumstances. Perhaps we all need to reassess their worth, and give them fair praise.
