ANYONE who stayed away from Bolton town centre last weekend missed a treat.

The annual Food and Drink Festival was a huge success, drawing thousands of visitors to Victoria Square, Le Mans Crescent, Newport Street, Deansgate, the Market Hall and The Market Place.

The attractions covered the whole area of food and drink, including dozens of stalls selling top quality items, and cookery demonstrations by TV gurus like Masterchef’s John Torode proved a real attraction.

The big winner here, though, was Bolton itself. The four-day event generated thousands of pounds for local retailers, cafes, even charity shops, and Bolton Council and everyone else involved in its organisation deserves congratulations.

It was lovely to see the town centre crowded and buzzing, and showing how busy Bolton can be. Now, the new Vaults’ area in The Market Place is set to continue the town’s good news story when restaurants open there in the next few months, offering parking, a cinema and good places to eat and drink – all in one venue.
