NEW research figures suggesting that a quarter of all parents have left their children alone in a car are truly terrifying.

Younger couples are the worst offenders: 42 per cent of 18 to 34 year-olds say they’ve done this, according to research by Kwik Fit Insurance Services.

One in four questioned did it because they “forgot their children.”

The survey involved 2,000 parents of all ages, and children as young as five were sometimes left. When you consider just what awful things could happen to them – from accidents to abduction – this is just appalling.

It is the kind of casual neglect that can so easily result in tragedy.
