TRIBUTES have rightly been paid to Phil Sayer, dubbed “the voice of the railway”, who has died at 62.
Phil lived in Bradshaw, Bolton, and was known to thousands as a DJ at Piccadilly Radio and BBC Radio Manchester and as a TV news reader.
It was, though, by his advice to “mind the gap” and “stand clear of the doors” on the London Underground and railway stations that many more knew him. He had a distinctive, warm voice that made you take notice.
He leaves a loving family and many friends, plus a listening legacy that will never die.
