DID you see the very moving video of the 40 year-old deaf woman who heard sounds for the first time?
Joanne Milne, who is also registered blind, had cochlear implants fitted, and her mother captured on film the first time she actually heard a voice. Her nurse reciting the days of the week proved overwhelmingly emotional for Joanne, who was plainly just so happy to finally hear anything.
You couldn’t fail to be touched by her experience. But it also made you very appreciative of the human faculties like sight and hearing that we just take for granted – until something affects them.
