WHEN Les Dennis first joined the cast of Coronation Street I’m sure I wasn’t the only viewer to have doubts about him fitting in.

After all, the comedian was better known as a chirpy presenter on Family Fortunes than for his acting skills. So it’s good to say that we were apparently wrong and that he’s making a good job of being reformed petty criminal Michael who’s palled up with his former victim Gail.

Les is actually a very accomplished actor with a fine line in pathos that’s entirely believable, and he already looks quite at home in Corrie.

Of course, he’s only one in a long line of comedians to successfully turn to straight acting, simply demonstrating their multi-talented skills. But Les has something special about him that’s very endearing, and he’s now looking like a character who will endure on the cobbles.
