THANK goodness for the Robert Buckley Sixth Form College which opened last year at the Atherton Community School, this has been a Godsend to pupils who have been turned away from the Leigh Sixth Form Centre following their decision not to hold AS-level courses because the demand was too low.

Since Atherton Community School opened in 2012, our local Labour councillors did everything they could to discredit the facility and its educational standards, following their failure to open a 14-19 year old centre.

Despite all the opposition Atherton Community School is now at the heart of the community and is a beacon of excellence following its recent “Good” rating by Ofsted, however this would possibly have been “Outstanding” had there had been some exam results to consider.
