My wife and I were thrilled to attend the Remembrance Day service in Bolton last Sunday and equally delighted to have marched with the United Services Veterans' Association.

As usual everything was fantastic as it always is when Bolton puts on its remembrance service.

Back in 2009 I was the guest speaker at the remembrance dinner, I made a point of raising the issue of asking why the memorial at Queens Park that bears over 1000 names of the 5th Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment is neglected.

In 2012 after much campaign work and with the help of this newspaper, a dedicated service to the 'Bolton Infantry' took place and was well attended.

Certain people of influence pledged that an annual service or some form of commemoration would take place in the wake of this event.

On Sunday my wife and I went along to the memorial at Queens Park — not a single wreath lay to honour the unofficial 'Bolton Pals'.
