I am concerned at the Council's proposal to reduce the size of our grey refuse bins in an attempt to bully us into recycling more.
I live on a steep cul de sac. The gradient makes it unsafe for refuse wagons if there is any significant snowfall; our bins are not emptied until the next scheduled collection. This was just an inconvenience in the days of weekly collections, two weeks between collections occasionally was manageable. It would be barely manageable, if at all, now that we have fortnightly collections, with potentially four weeks between collections. With smaller bins it would be nigh on impossible. If the council is intent on going down this avenue therefore, I would suggest that either: present size bins are retained in those streets which are likely to become impassable to refuse wagons in the event of significant snowfall, or:securely bagged additional refuse is accepted on the next scheduled collection when one has been missed. All that is needed is a little common sense.
