FOR many months Westhoughton Local History Group has been working hard researching the men behind the names on the Westhoughton War Memorial.
The research culminated in a very successful exhibition in the town’s library. On Remembrance Sunday our Group joined a large crowd of Howfeners who spilled over the roads around the War Memorial to commemorate the men who died.
For readers who joined in the day and for those who missed it, a short youtube video of the Tower of London poppies can be viewed on the Westhoughton Local History Group website. The video leads into the laying of wreaths at Westhoughton. The Group has also produced a book about the Great War and the men of Westhoughton who died. This will be available in the next few days. www.westhoughtonhistorygroup.org.uk
