GREAT fun was had at the Council meeting last Wednesday even after the Bedroom Tax protesters had had their ten minutes of fame (and believe me, I do think this subject is worthy of further debate).

I had of course anticipated the reaction to my question about throwing good money after bad at so called Deprived Areas even though the Government statistics show undeniably that relative deprivation has worsened in these areas over the last 14 years.

A cynic might say that this pointless profligacy was more to do with Labour holding on to its client vote rather than finding a more effective solution to whatever deprivation might exist.

The later reaction to my non-controversial and non-political motion about the changes to administration of car tax was less predictable. The speech of one Conservative member was patronising in the extreme and demonstrated a complete lack of empathy with us lesser mortals for whom affording necessary personal transport is a daily difficulty.

This was followed by the usual Labour block vote against a perfectly reasonable proposition which demonstrated that they also were more interested in ‘doing down’ myself and UKIP than representing the less well off of their constituents.

Water off a duck’s back to me, but I daresay that electors will keep these two events in mind next May when they are choosing who can better represent them in future in the Council chamber.
