AT a time when Bolton Council faces yet another round of cuts (This time £43 million) most people will appreciate that councillors and senior council officers face enormous challenges and dilemmas
Like many people it sickens me that towns like Bolton have been disproportionately targeted by the government agenda of cuts to public spending.
However l was astonished to see that there are plans to spend £3 million on developing a colourful " Bolton Boulevard" in the town centre.
There is no doubt that our town centre needs support to reverse economic decline. A new colour scheme will paint over the problem but will it offers a solution?
We need to defend jobs and increase pay levels to help put more money in people's pockets. If the people of Bolton have more to spend this will help
boost many local shops and businesses including those on the high street.
I would urge the council to think again about proposals for the " Bolton Boulevard" and consider putting the money to better use elsewhere.
