I WOULD like to say what a complete waste of money the new redevelopment for Farnworth centre will be.

The last time Farnworth had a "make over" it was a disaster! I’ve lived in Farnworth for over 40 years and it used to be a thriving town.

All the high street shops have all gone and Farnworth is more like a ghost town for shopping. All the people who used to come here to shop no longer do so.

Most only come to go to Asda and don’t even bother going on the precinct. The market that was once one of the best in the north west is nothing more than a few stalls and now they are going altogether. You only have to look at Walkden and the Tesco development to see Walkden is not thriving as it should. The empty units up for rent are not being taken and that is what will happen here.

Farnworth is rundown and who made it so! Spending all this money will not bring more people into the town. When they built the Collage in Queen St they said it would boost Farnworth, bring in students and the shops would benefit and look what happened to that. It’s now closed.

It is the people who live close to the centre of Farnworth who it will affect, all the disruption it will cause to the roads.

Cars use my street as a cut through now to avoid the lights at Longcauseway going down to Stoneclough or Kearsley. The roads are congested as it is. The council knew what they were doing when all the roads in the Bolton area were narrowed and islands put in the middle to slow traffic, causing tail backs and traffic jam.

How are they planning to improve Market St-King St and the A666 to Kearsley? By putting the roads back to the way they where? The money would be better spent on other things like better housing in the area. But like everything else people like us don’t get a say. So no doubt the plans will go ahead as planned and another few years down the line someone else will have another new idea and Farnworth will go through all this again.
