THE Conservative have decided to allow 1.3 million families in social housing to buy their homes at a large discount.
As most social housing is now owned by housing associations they will expect the government to fund their tenant discounts when there homes are sold.
Housing experts assume the cost to the taxpayer will be somewhere between £5.8 billion to £20 billion.
In addition, the Chancellor, George Osborne has previously been giving discounts to first time buyers through its help to buy scheme which suggests to me that housing in general is over priced in relation to most people's ability to pay.
Low pay, uncertain hours and generally less job security has meant that renting a home will be the only option for many people today and in the foreseeable future.
As far as housing is concerned we need to build more homes at reasonable rents with fairer tenancy agreements.
